Stream of Consciousness: Western

The following are the thoughts running through my head as I watched today's game.  I don't know if I'll do this in the future or not, but I thought I'd give it a shot.  I didn't spell check or edit this, so it is as is.  I am kind of happy and sad at the same time right now.  I waited nine months for this game and didn't even get to see three quarters, but at the same time M won big and looked pretty decent.  Definitely left me wanting more!  Oh well, a win is a win I suppose.

The temperature has been mentioned a million times already….About to kickoff!!!...Deferred to second half, I like it…Decent coverage on opening kickoff….No Cam Gordon…First snap, Mike Martin almost got to Carder before the ball did…CBs playing way off, too easy, they’ll bubble us to death if we don’t tighten up…Defense looks confused pre-snap…Good fill by Demens, would like to see him wrap up more than an ankle but I’ll take it….Third and long, wide open, smh….blown coverage, one guy covering two receivers, should’ve been a time out…TD Western, Carder is 8-8 for 57 yards on opening drive, too easy, not a good start for this defense…Denard runs on first snap…Completes his first pass…Picks up the 1^st down on the ground…Little tentative on offense too…First snap under center, I-Form Iso to Vince Smith…Looks like the default 3^rd down call is QB draw, I like putting the ball in Denard’s hands but need to mix it up a little…Too much QB draw, would like to see Borges get him to the edge….Nice diving catch by Dileo, 4^th and 1…Going for it, I like it…1^st down!...Good second read on the boot, wanted to go to Koger in the flat but he got caught in the trash, hit’s Grady on the second level, good progression, good throw, 1^st and goal, end of 1^st quarter, 7-0 Western…Fitz for the TD on the quick dive….That’s the second short yardage they gone to that single back with Fitz at FB depth and given it to him on that little dive play….Come on D, time to step up and distance yourself from last year…Horrible lane discipline on the KO, could’ve driven my truck through there, can’t give these guys field position at the 40+ or it’s going to be a long day…On a better note, Wile’s KOs are pretty decent…Woolfolk hurt on KO, please no…Lot of 3-4 looks…Beyer has to read run better than that, he ran right by the play and left the edge unmanned for the RB, picks up about 20…JT Floyd wearing number 8, needs to turn earlier and locate the ball, could’ve been called for that one…Defense holds, forces FG, better…Miss, now time to turn the tide and capitalize, let’s go O, can take a hold of this game right now….Would like to see Borges take a shot here on 1^st down…Denard looking for Koger all the way there, looks like he will get a lot of targets today…I don’t like the decision to throw the deep ball by Denard there, it’s 3^rd and 3 just pull it down and pick up the 1^st down…Delay of game on the punt inside your own 35, special teams has not impressed me…punt is almost blocked, pressure right up the middle, not a terrible punt but again coverage is poor, Western will start in M territory, ugh…Woolfolk carted off, damnit…Carder running the ball effectively is not a good sign…Bring 6 on the blitz and got zero pressure, ugh…LBs look non existent right now…ESPN just cut out, FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU….Jake Ryan, wearing number 90 gets a great rush up the middle and forces the bad throw by Carder and Herron goes 94 yards with the pick 6!!!!  Huge play…MUCH better lane discipline, and amazingly they keep him inside the 30, coincidence?  No…D looks jacked right now, love it!...Will Heninger having a big series…I HATE Jeremy Gallon as a punt returner…Flood of tweets telling me that the Herron INT return is a school record, nice…Video boards look pretty good, still say they should’ve gone bigger…Shaw first carry, stretch, loses a couple, Western played it well…Good throw and good call on third and medium/long, good route by Gallon too…ESPN doesn’t have their mic feed turned on for the referee, fail, I find I hate them a little more every day…Bad throw behind Roundtree, Roy makes a great adjustment to bail him out…I am really rooting for Fitz to be “the guy” at RB, I really like him…Good lord DR is exciting, needs to put the ball away…Fitz scores again, blocked PAT, bad snap, holder did a good job to get it down but threw off timing, most disturbingly NO ONE went after the ball, just stared at it, Koger is the exception and makes the play, WAKE UP SPECIAL TEAMS…Once again, return is out near the 40, major block in the back not called…Floyd yelling at his safety help for not picking up the post route…Carvin Johnson is disappointing me…Avery has to turn around and find the damn ball!!!...HOLY GOD TURN AROUND WTF?!?!?!?....I like the house blitzing, coverage makes me nervous…10 point lead with less than a minute left, I’m curious to see what Hoke and Borges will do here, depends a lot on the field position…well nevermind, that was dumb…Shut up Craig James, you suck at life…End of half, 20-10 good guys

Second Half…Damn it ESPN…Raining, hard, Denard having trouble…Good coverage on the punt…Game suspended bc of lightning, zzzzzzzz….I really like the block M above the player’s names on the jerseys…I even hate Craig James’ tie…15 yard cushion on the slot receiver, bubble screen, shocker, please stop doing that…Would someone please cover White???...Carder is pretty good, he’ll get drafted in April…Penalty on Western reminds me that M has had zero pre-snap penalties (knock on wood)…Kovacks just killed Carder, fumble, Herron again scoops and scores, seriously though I think Carder is dead, very nice blitz design by Mattison…KO coverage is terrible…Did Mike Patrick just say that M’s defense was in a “bend over format”?...Same blitz, Kovacks gets another sack…Western is falling apart a little here…BTW, are those new helmets they’re wearing?...Mike Jones looks slow for a Willie ‘backer…Gallon did the right thing with a punt and didn’t even bobble it, good sign…Would like to see some magic from Denard, he has been pretty pedestrian today, if he’s going to make a Heisman run he needs to get going…Gigantic hole for Fitz, great job by O-line…Damn!  Denard just missed Dileo, coulda scored on that one…Another huge hole for Shaw this time, O-line dominated on that drive, very encouraging…David Molk just drove #92 15 yards downfield on that TD run, he can be a badass when he wants to…Lots of pressure on the QB, soooooo good to see, seems like its been years since I’ve seen this much pressure…Wheels coming off for the Broncos…Marvin Robinson getting some snaps at SS, not wrapping up, not taking good angles…Really glad the weather is bad, getting experience in bad weather is invaluable…DR downfield to Hemmingway, about time!!...Damn it’s pouring…Nice jump cut by Fitz, I really really like him…Another weather delay, zzzzzzzzzzzzz…Minnesota is giving USC a game in LA, just scored a TD to cut it to 2, wow…Holy God, Charlie Weis is a fat disgusting load…Minnesota’s true freshman QB, in for injured starter, throws crippling 4^th Q pick, looks like SC will pull it out, damn…zzzzzzzzzzzzzz…Please don’t cancel the rest of this game, I’ve waited for nine months for today and we’re not even through the 3^rd quarter yet…Seeing a lot of tweets that the game has been called, sonofabitch…Final, Michigan 34, Western 10…Well, that was anticlimactic.
